RULES REMINDER

Every month the chairman of the Rules Committee,Noble Bud Wheat, will offer a golf rule reminder so that we will know which rule we are bending during our weekly dollar Nassau. Just kidding, Bud.

WATER HAZARD

  • The water hazard rule allows the player to take a drop outside the hazard under penalty of one stroke.
  • There are two options when in a regular hazard (yellow stake). When in a lateral hazard (red stake), there are two options.
  • If the ball crosses the margin of a regular water hazard, you can (1) take a drop any desired distance backwards on a line from the hole to the entry point, under penalty of one stroke. (2) Take a drop where the last shot was played, under penalty of one stroke. If this was on the tee, the new ball can be teed up.
  • If your ball crosses the margin of a lateral water hazard,so called because it is impossible to drop the ball behind the hazard, two additional options are available. (1) Take a drop within two club lengths of the entry point, no closer to the hole, under penalty of one stroke. (2) Take a drop within two club lengths of the point opposite the entry point (spot on the other side of the hazard must be the same distance from the hole), under penalty of one stroke.
