A SHORT HISTORY OF THE NILE GOLF COURSE

In 1962, a questionnaire was sent out to all Nile nobles to determine how to develop the country club property to better serve the nobles and their families. From among the many items to choose from, a golf course was chosen by a majority of nobles. After much discussion and planning as to the layout of the course, a contract was let in 1965 to build an executive 9- hole course. The course was finally completed in early 1968. Golf Pro and Shrine member Bob Tindell was chosen to run the golf course. Play opened on May 1, 1968 for Nile Shrine members. A formal ceremonial opening and dedication took place on May 11, 1968 with the Chanters, the Band, representatives from Imperial and other temples in attendaace. The second nine holes were not added and play begun on them until 1996. A dedication of the expanded course took place on August 11 of that year as part of the Pote's Golf Tournament, although play actually begun with a special Shriners Only Tournament on July 1. That same year, a new Pro Shop was completed under the direction of Bud Wheat and Andy Warner. Although still listed as private, the expanded course was opened for public play. Numerous improvements since that time under the direction of Head Groundskeeper Davis Korsmoe has brought the Nile course to the excellent condition that it is in today. Nile's Head Golf Pro is Randy Puetz.
